Diabetes is a serious, long term; medical condition characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood, in this condition body is not able to control the amount of glucose in the blood, glucose is needed by the body to produce energy, but too much glucose leads to serious problems. But too much glucose may cause serious problems. Glucose levels are mainly controlled by a hormone known as “insulin”, which is produced in the pancreas, in the condition of diabetes there is either not enough insulin is produced or the body is unable to use the insulin that is produced.

There are two main type of diabetes

Type 1 – it is also called insulin dependent diabetes, usually starts in childhood or as a young adult. People with this type of diabetes produce little to no insulin.

Causes of type 1 diabetes

In this type of diabetes there is little or no insulin production of insulin, it is one of a autoimmune disorders in which immune system mistakenly attacks the body itself with unknown reason. Factors such as viral infection or an injury to the pancreas may play an important role.

Sign and symptoms of type 1 diabetes

  • Excessive thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Itching around the genitals
  • Impaired or blurred vision

Type 2 diabetes  

Usually starts as an adult, although the number of children with type 2 diabetes is increased. Those with this type of diabetes produce some insulin, but not enough, and the whole body cannot properly use it.

Cause of type 2 diabetes

There may be appropriate production of insulin by pancreas but body is unable to utilize it effectively results in to insulin resistance, insulin production decreases and glucose builds up in the blood.

  • Family history of diabetes
  • Increased weight
  • Inactivity
  • Hypertension
  • Pregnancy
  • Metabolic disturbances

Sign and symptoms of type 2 diabetes

  • Excessive thirst
  • Fatigue
  • General ill feeling
  • Frequent urination
  • Blurredness of vision
  • Patient becomes prone to various infections
  • Slow heeling of damaged tissues
